The shop
Joanne and Gaspar, at the bench since 1986.
Joanne Ramirez and her husband Gaspar opened Valley Upholstery in 1986 in a small shop on Chatsworth Street in Granada Hills. Gaspar is a master, self-taught furniture maker. Joanne leads design, sales, and the books.
We still build the old way: hardwood frames, eight-way hand-tied springs when the piece calls for it, and paper templates laid to the curve of your wall so the furniture fits the room like clothing. Our work has aired on HGTV and ABC, sat in the Mark Taper Forum lobby, and taken Best Upholsterer in the Valley.
We moved to our Canoga Park workroom in February 2026.

Where is your workroom?
8100 Remmet Avenue, Unit 1, Canoga Park, California 91304. We started in Granada Hills, spent decades in Northridge, and moved to Canoga Park in February 2026.

Do you do commercial work?
Yes. We manufacture and install booths, banquettes, and boardroom seating for restaurants, nightclubs, hotels, and offices, and we travel for large installations.
What is your furniture built from?
Hardwood frames from renewable forests, with eight-way hand-tied coil springs or sinuous springs to suit the piece and your budget.
Can I see fabrics before I decide?
Yes. Fabric viewing is by appointment. Call (818) 349-4336 to set up a time.
Do you deliver and install?
Yes. We deliver and install, including large commercial projects across the country.
